The 4th Steering Committee meeting of the BioSolWaRe-LIFE Project was held at CENTA facilities (Carrión de los Céspedes, Seville) on 3rd October 2017. This is a key opportunity to exchange information about the BioSolWaRe-LIFE results and to help improve technical and organizational issues.
The meeting was aimed at presenting BioSolWaRe project progress and planning the next steps foreseen in the last-year of the project. The first session of the meeting was addressed to present the latest results obtained at CENTA. This presentation, done by Ms. Souha GAMRI (Project manager-HELIO PUR TECHNOLOGIES) , helped the identification of the performances obtained and the difficulties encountered in the deployment of the BSP tubular reactor. =.Then , Mr. Raul CANO HERRANZ (Project manager-FCC-Aqualia) presented the results obtained in the open raceway units located in Grado (Asturias) and CENTA (Seville) in the frame of the LIFE-BioSolWaRe project. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Carlos ARAGON CRUZ (Project manager-CENTA) has presented the updates related to the Communication Plan, including all the events where the results of BioSolWaRe-LIFE project have been disseminated.
The trial made on tubular reactor in CENTA since 2016 have demonstrated the need for some technical improvements to reach the objectives of the project. Several improvements have been made to lower operation costs and enhance commercial development in countries with warm climate, but further efforts are still needed. The steering committee has decided to maintain tubular reactor trials in CENTA up to the end of the project. Thus, an open raceway combined with a process designed to transform biomass into fertilizer will be implemented in ALMERIA to fulfill the project objectives. This new strategy which combines both systems (open raceway and tubular system) aims at increasing treatment performances and disinfection rates. This combination shall also guarantee the safe reuse of the reclaimed water and biomass in agriculture.
The next activities planned focus on the implementation of the new strategy and future trials in CENTA and ALMERIA. New results are expected on Summer 2018.
